VUETRADE Connector Plate Nails Galvanised 30mm x 2.8mm

Did you know that a 30 x 2.8 nail will achieve a higher load or wind uplift rating than a 30 x 3.15 nail?

Curious how this works?  Wouldn’t a 3.15 diameter nail be stronger?

VUETRADE have released a case study with the data which will explain and answer your questions!

Basically the additional strength is due to the extra sheet material in the timber connector when smaller diameter nails are used; ultimately the amount of sheet metal surrounding the nails governs the strength of the timber connector.

VUETRADE Timber Connectors are designed for use with VUETRADE 30mm x 2.8mm Connector Plate Nails ONLY.

VUETRADE Connector Plate Nail Comparison Case Study

Case Study: Comparison Between 2.8mm Nails and 3.15mm Connector Plate Nails

This case study has been done to compare between the usage of 30×2.8mm nails and 30×3.15mm nails. Although 2.8mm nails are smaller in diameter, they are still stronger compared to using 3.15mm nails. The additional strength is due to the extra sheet material in the timber connector when smaller diameter nails are used. Although nails with a larger diameter have a higher holding capacity, it is ultimately the amount of sheet metal surrounding the nails that governs the strength of the timber connector.

From the three case studies made below, VUETRADE products have a higher loading capacity as compared to product from Company A even though VUETRADE uses 2.8mm nails.

For consistency, the number of nails used are equal to make a fair comparison. The only difference is the size of the nails used in each timber connector.
