Post Supports

Post Supports can be generally described as metal ground anchors for vertical timber posts.

There are a large range of different styles to suit different purposes, as well as aesthetic styles. Post supports are often hidden underneath decking and do not require to have a visually appealing finish.

However when post supports are in prominently visible locations, it may be worth considering a bladed support such as the T-Blade, or a black powder coated support (see our BLACKOUT range) for a more aesthetic finish. The material should also be considered depending on the location and purpose of the installation. Stainless Steel offers significantly better corrosion resistance.

Post supports are often installed to limit timber decay caused by moisture contact from the concrete ground which decreases the overall lifetime of the timber build.

Other reasons for their installation, depending on your location, can be to mitigate termite activity (the raised height from the ground makes their trail more visible and easier to sight before the termites cause significant damage).

Post supports can also be a suitable choice for timber structure renovations, as this can allow for bolting to the concrete ground opposed to a more complicated process to remove and re-cast concrete to support the timber posts.

Galvanised and Stainless Steel

Rates of corrosion vary in different environments (for further information see our Specification Area Chart). Most supports are available in Galvanised steel, as well as Stainless Steel Grade 304 or Stainless Steel Grade 316.

A Stainless Steel material is recommended in higher corrosion environments such as near the coast for prolonged lifetime of your timber build.

Stainless Steel connectors are marketed under the CoastalSS brand.

Bolt Down or Cast In

Different projects require different solutions, many post supports are suited to both bolt down and cast in installations.

A bolt down installation is better suited for when concrete is pre-existing on site, or when you are unable to confirm location or have the support available when concrete is to be poured.

Casting in installations are suited for precise height distances from ground, and where there is suitable planning and preparation to install them at the time the concrete is poured.

VUEBOLT - Post Support Bolt

The VUEBOLT is commonly known as the post support bolt due to its unique dome head design providing a tidy finish on BOTH sides of the timber when installed.

Gone are the days of protruding bolt threads which can be both unsightly and create an extra hazard in thoroughfares.

So that this bolt is usable in most scenarios, it is not only available in Zinc-Nickel Galvanised, but also available in 316 Grade Stainless Steel and BLACKOUT powder coating.

See vuetrade.com/vuebolt for video and technical data.
